Then . . . they get the bug! They want to compete!

 

They switch from exercising to training without really knowing how to train. They begin running in earnest without really knowing how to run.

 

Unlike other sports where coaching and lessons are the norm - we have all been running since childhood and, quite naturally, think we have a pretty good idea how it works!
