'1998 Nike World Masters Games'..my top of the mountain on my idol 'Pre's track !
Life in the Fast Lane I hope that everyone in their competitive running & racing careers gets to achieve their own particular 'Holy Grail'..I was blessed to achieve this for myself in the summer of 1998...keep it in mind that my running career essentially started in 1990 with a 4.41 marathon in New York. The journey to that (my first marathon) started with a mile time trial of ten minutes on an indoor track in March 1990....In early 1998 I was reaching new levels and starting

Patriot's Day~ those cowardly bastards ! #bostonstrong
Life in the Fast Lane This past Saturday I went to see the movie Patriot's Day with my son Luke..It is awkward to say a movie is good when it relates to such historical tragedy but it is certainly well done and very sensitive to the very sensitive subject matter. Of course it is hard to know how factual elements to the movie are but we are as runners in particular very aware of many of the details that emerged at that fateful time back in April 2013. For me personally as far

Determination ! ✊
Life in the Fast Lane... Determination will win the day ! Get out the door and get it done !

"What's Your Rocky Moment?"..
Life in the Fast Lane Race Emcee I am blessed to wear many 'hats' under the umbrella of this great sport of ours that we call 'Running'... Some of the hats deal with complex and more serious coaching issues including but not limited to training & racing but one of the fun aspects to runnng that I am involved in is my work as Race Emcee at some great races across the USA. Over the years this has ranged from awesome track meets such as at Monmouth University to Marathons from M

A Sport for all Seasons...
Life in the Fast Lane Technology is changing, our lives are changing, I am of the opinion that evolution and change is for the better...I am a look to the future kind of person, respectful and acknowledging of the past but not living in it.I do believe that if we do not respect history then we are doomed to repeat it and that can be a very bad thing but essentially I am a drive forward, head help up high with passion, enthusiasm and yes, a plan kind of guy... I have noticed a

'Taking it in stride'....
Life in the Fast Lane... Someone once said 'A picture is worth a thousand words'.. If that is to be believed then a sixty second video is worth a good deal more.... "GP, I just don't have time to read Run Tall, Run Easy", "I really only listen to audio books", "I am a visual learner".....it is indeed my hopes that one day soon Run Tall, Run Easy the video will be available to you but not worry, in the meantime, feast your eyes on this poetry in motion, this moving Picasso...

Beyond the Horizon (Final Preview)
Life in the Fast Lane I woke up on marathon “afternoon” in my home in Sherman Oaks, California ( a suburb of LA) with the sunlight streaming through the blinds in my bedroom, not only too late to make it downtown to watch the race, but embarrassingly too late to even see the race on television. I knew something had to change, and it had to change now ! Little did I know it at the time, but the direction of my life would change in that instant, forever ! I showered to wake my

'Beyond the Horizon'....where & how it all began....
Life in the Fast Lane reader, I am in the midst of writing an autobiographical book of ' one ordinary runner. one extraordinary story...with the working title 'Beyond The Horizon'... Declare your Intent Athletes, Wishing you all a great Sunday from the desk of Coach GP. We are connected by a common bond of being competitive athletes. We share in the pain and the elation of Daring to Fail. Declare your intent to yourself and to those who take interest in what you are doing. If you pin a race number on, then do not make any preemptive excuses about this tweak or that tweak, this sprained ankle or that dodgy hamstring.......if they are issues, do not pin the

The Red Oval !~
A very good friend of mine, a very successful California High School running coach once described to me track running as 'Carnegie Hall' and road running as 'Rock and Roll. I always appreciated this metaphor..I think it suits it's description perfectly. In professional baseball you are an All Star if you fail 70% of the time. I don't have the exact comparable statistics for track & field but I am 100% certain that in our sport we must dare to fail,we must accept and embrace f
